Broadway's Box Office Success: 'Harry Potter and the Cursed Child' Reigns Supreme

Despite a slightly reduced lineup and a chilly New York City winter, Broadway managed to stay strong last week, with 29 shows generating a total gross of $30,170,014. This is a 5% decrease from the previous week's earnings, which included the final performances of 'Mamma Mia!' and 'Liberation'.

The week ending February 8th saw a total attendance of 256,752, mirroring the slight dip in revenue. Interestingly, about half of the shows experienced a decline in box office sales.

One notable performer was 'Oh, Mary!', which slid by $208,846 to $845,264 during John Cameron Mitchell's debut as the lead character. The Lyceum theatre was nearly full, with attendance at 97% capacity.

'Oedipus' at Studio 54 had a remarkable week, breaking house records with a sold-out performance that brought in $1,212,949, a significant increase of $279,616 from the previous week, as reported by Deadline (https://deadline.com/2026/02/oedipus-broadway-mark-strong-lesley-manville-1236713664/).

Other sold-out shows included 'Buena Vista Social Club' ($911,334), 'Just In Time' ($1,314,310), and 'Ragtime' ($1,090,011).

Several shows filled over 95% of their seats, such as 'Chicago' ($1,316,977), 'Hadestown' ($890,647), 'Hamilton' ($1,848,898), 'Marjorie Prime' ($355,568), 'Maybe Happy Ending' ($1,022,741), 'Moulin Rouge!' ($944,452), 'Oh, Mary!' ($845,264), 'Operation Mincemeat' ($756,900), 'The Outsiders' ($931,783), and 'Wicked' ($1,596,259).

On the other hand, 'Six' and 'All Out: Comedy About Ambition' fell short, with attendance below 80% capacity, earning $525,436 and $575,480, respectively. The latter will welcome new cast members Ray Romano, Nicholas Braun, Jenny Slate, and Jake Shane on February 17th, marking their Broadway debuts (https://deadline.com/2026/02/jake-shane-broadway-all-out-comedy-about-ambition-1236713032/).

'Two Strangers (Carry A Cake Across New York)' managed to fill just over 80% of its seats at the Longacre theatre, grossing $620,603 for the week.

The top-earning shows for the week were 'Harry Potter and the Cursed Child' ($2,339,937), 'Hamilton' ($1,848,898), 'Wicked' ($1,596,259), 'The Lion King' ($1,514,057), and 'Stranger Things: The First Shadow' ($1,400,514).

So far this season, Broadway has grossed $1,360,545,472, an 8% increase over the same period last year, with a total attendance of 10,169,492, a 3% rise.
